ANSWERS - 1 - THE DEFINITE AND INDEFINITE ARTICLE (§1.2.1 p.16)
Using the word list or dictionary, translate the following english phrases into Sindarin -
a man; the son; the hill ; a tree ; the Sun ; the Telerin elf ; the gate ; a debate ; the holly-tree ; (braided) hair
adan (a human) or benn (a male); ion ; amon ; i Anor ; i teler ; i annon ; i athrabeth ; i ereg or eregdos; finnel
- and translate these into either English or your native tongue:
in erain; in ion; sell; i aew; naug ; in edain ; in aew ; i aran ; galadh ; calad
the kings; the sons; the bird ; a dwarf ; the men or the humans ; the birds ; the king ; a tree ; (a) light
Note that for Sindarin words that are the same singular and plural (i.e. aew, ion) the definite article can tell you whether it is intended as singular or plural.
