Praise Be To Eru
Written by King Elessar

Winter

Now my heart tells me that winter draws near.
My wisdom soon will fade; my time soon will end.

I will not linger to fall; I will not tarry to wither.
I will not lament nor grieve at my approaching end.

I have cleaved to all that is good,
I have loathed all grievous evil-deeds.

My time has been long and most rich,
My life has been most blessed.

Even Thou, Eru, even Thou hast blessed my deeds.

Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

Awakening

Blessed was my awakening,
The day of my first breath;

Begotten of a high, enduring House,
Of Noble Arathorn, [and] Fair Gilraen,

Chieftain of the Faithful, Men of the West,
Heir of Isildur, Elendil's son.

Blessed was I in my most noble name,
Blessed was I in their steadfast strength.

Blessed was I in their unfailing love!

Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

Stirring

When death broke us apart,
Grief came to dwell with us.

With Elrond, mighty Elven Lord,
Safety was found in Rivendell.

Then Hope was my new name;
And I desired to be made fit for Hope.

As a father was Elrond, generous and wise;
both his bold sons my beloved brothers.

I strove ever harder to be like them!

Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

Spring

When my manhood was revealed,
Then I learned my history.

Walking at sunset among the birches,
Full of my glory, I beheld true glory.

After that day, my heart was steadfast,
Arwen Undómiel was my desire.

Through long years [the] testing was most hard.
As Thorongil I fought in Gondor

Until in Lothlorien we spoke our oath.

Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

Summer

Years upon years I wandered [the] leagues of Middle-earth
Guided by Grey Wanderer [the] wisest of wizards.

My kingship veiling, I guarded the Halflings,
Until days of war had come and of doom .

Then at last Strider came out from deep shadows
Wielding [the] Sword Reforged in many dangers.

The Paths of the Dead in haste I rode ;
Those days full of darkness begot peace for us.

My Kingdom Thou gavest me, and my Fair-beloved !

Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

Harvest

Summer's beauty and the High Elves departed -
[The] deepest grief to us in Middle-earth.

And yet the lands of the realm were blessed;
By the Valar they have been healed.

Forgiveness and mercy have set us free.
A rich harvest has been granted to the Faithful.

Our son Eldarion and our sweet-faced daughters
Thou gavest to us, fruit of our oath of love.

But now Time changes Harvest to Fire-Fading.

Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

Fire-Fading

[The] Heir of the Realm is ready,
New deeds are his to do.

Thou gavest Men the gift of mortality;
Thou gavest [the] Kings the gift of choice.

I have finished my work, and it suffices;
Now I am getting old, and I long for rest.

I love deeply the beauty of my home,
But Hope, my name from of old, tells me,

"Beyond the circles of the world
I will find a place far surpassing this."

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

Laitalë endanyo antan Elyen!

Farewell

I have gathered and I have wielded,
Now [the] time of my choice is drawing near.

This hour is bitter, but I will depart
For I desire to go and give back the gift.

There is no comfort for grief in this world,
But we will not be defeated at the final test.

I must leave in sorrow, but not without hope:
We are not bound to the circles of the world,

And beyond them there is more than memory.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Glory eternal be to Eru,
My heart's praise I give to Thee!

well, what can I say ...

I'm a bit speechless. My first very deep feeling connected to Tolkien's legendarium was connected with this part in the appendixes of LOTR where is described how Aragorn feels his end coming; the worthiness of his goodbye to Arwen and her laying to rest in a fading Lothlórien after that. I read that when I was still very young and somehow connected that to the final part of Tchaikovsky's sixth symphony .. it is still one of the most profound and meaningful passages despite many more have come my way since then.

Also, the phasing according to the Eldarin seasons is wonderful.
This is really beautiful.
